Tour Highlights

  • Journey with us as we explore the Canaries’ archipelago, diving into warm waters off the volcanic southern coast of Gran Canaria.

  • Enjoy coastal Atlantic swims on a Short Escape swimming holiday as we make the most of high average water temperatures and calm open water conditions for early and late season swimmers.

  • Combine your time in the water with sampling the delicious Spanish cuisine at traditional restaurants and tapas bars.

Join us in the Canaries’ archipelago as we explore the diverse terrain of its third-largest island. Gran Canaria is known for its varying landscapes, from green northern reaches through mountainous midlands to the more arid southern coast.

During this Short Escape swimming holiday we will weave around the island’s southern fingers. Here you will find yourself protected from prevailing winds, sheltered in warm bays and by cliff-edged stretches, which serve as ideal settings for our daily swims.

Local Atlantic swims around this popular Spanish island are not soon forgotten. Enjoy high average water temperatures and calm open water conditions for both early and late season swimmers. You can also combine your strokes in the water with time well-spent in a choice of traditional restaurants and tapas bars.

Sample Trip Itinerary

Please note that the below daily itineraries are an example of the swims that may take place during your trip, however, actual swim locations and distances will vary according to local weather and swim conditions. Your SwimTrek guides and local boat pilots will determine the most suitable swim locations each day and will communicate the plan with all guests as soon as possible.

Trip Schedule

Start Point: Puerto De Mogán - Apartments

Start Time: 16:00 on Day 1

Finish Point: Puerto De Mogán - Apartments

Finish Time: 12:00 on Day 4

Day 1

We will meet in the afternoon for our pre-trip briefing where we’ll discuss the plan for the days ahead. Following this, we will head to the nearby beach for an acclimatisation swim. This is an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the location and water temperature. We will then head to the hotel for our welcome drink and dinner together.

Day 2

For our first full day of swimming, we head out of the marina and take the boats north along the coast towards Playa Del Carrilo. We enter the water here and swim ourselves south, past the short peninsula at Playa Veneguera. After our first swim, we will head back to marina for lunch. You will be able to find somewhere local to relax and refuel or make use of your facilities in the apartments.

We gather after lunch and head back out to complete the northern stretch of coastline - we start where we finished earlier this morning at Playa Veneguera. Then we follow the rugged coastline along to Playa Perchel. where we board the boats for a short transfer back to the marina. Before dinner, you have the option of exploring the town, relaxing at the hotel, or local beach. Alternatively, you can join us for a walk to the Los Gatos Archaeological Zone. This small site displays stone houses that formed the old town of La Cañada de Los Gatos, estimated to be over 13000 years old, which is now preserved as a site of cultural interest.

Day 3

Today, we head south from the marina, starting at the local marina of Playa do Puerto Rico. We swim north with the volcanic coast on our right, seeking out a few small caves in the volcanic cliffs. This swim is part of the ferry route from Puerto De Mogán, so you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have swum yourself along the coastline instead of taking the ferry! We return to the marina for lunch and head back out in the afternoon to complete our day swimming from Playa de Tauro to Playa de Tiritaña.

Finally, we regroup in the early evening to take a walk up to the viewpoint of El Mirador. From there you will be able to survey all your open water achievements of the week. Upon our return, we head to the hotel for dinner and our last night together.

Day 4

This morning, after breakfast, we head out early along the coast and start our final swim at Playa de Tiritaña, snaking back to Playa Mogán before saying farewell.

You should bring extra money with you to cover items such as meals not already included in your package, drinks, entertainment, souvenirs, etc.

In some countries, tipping (gratuities) is not part of the culture - in others it has become an expected norm. We believe that tipping is done entirely at your own discretion. If you have been provided with excellent service it may be something you wish to do. Your SwimTrek Guides can advise on local norms for service providers like boat crew, waiters or taxis. Nothing is expected for your SwimTrek Guides but many groups like to present something to the Guides at the end of the trip.
